According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Germany plans to build two liquefied natural gas terminals to increase the country's natural gas resources and reduce Germany's dependence on Russian gas.
According to Scholz, Germany can build two liquefied natural gas terminals in Brunsbuttel and Wilhelmshaven in the short term.
"We will do more to ensure that we have a secure supply of energy resources for our country.
We need to change course to overcome dependence on individual suppliers of energy.
“The events of the past few days have shown us that a responsible energy policy with a future perspective is crucial not only for our economy and nature, but also for our security,” Olaf Scholz told the Bundestag.
The German Chancellor says that the country aims to increase renewable energy sources in the shortest possible time.
In addition, the Chancellor noted that Germany will increase the volume of natural gas storage by 2 billion cubic meters in the long run, and will also purchase additional natural gas on the international market in cooperation with the European Union.
It should be noted that according to European gas infrastructure data, Germany now has an underground gas storage capacity of 24 billion cubic meters, which is about 30% full.
Germany, under pressure from Western countries, found itself in parallel with the threat of Russian invasion of Ukraine. Western countries are urging Germany to be less dependent on Russian gas.
Earlier this week, in response to Russia's actions in Ukraine, Germany suspended a $11 billion North Stream 2 gas pipeline project.
