The Prosecutor's Office releases a statement on the investigation launched in connection with the confrontation on the territory of the US Embassy

The Georgian Prosecutor's Office issues a statement regarding the inquiry into the confronation that occurred on US Embassy property.
The General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia reportedly began an inquiry into the circumstances of violence and threats at the official reception hosted on the grounds of the US Embassy and attended by members of the Georgian Parliament on June 30 of this year.
“On July 15 of this year, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the Prosecutor's Office received a note from the Embassy of the United States of America in Georgia, in which they express their readiness, taking into account the diplomatic immunity of the Embassy and Embassy staff, to cooperate with the relevant agencies of Georgia through diplomatic channels regarding the investigation of the incident that occurred on June 30, on the territory of the diplomatic mission.
The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia began an inquiry into the criminal case after receiving the aforementioned note, and all essential investigative and procedural procedures would be actively carried out, according to the agency.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the inquiry was initiated as a result of Vakhtang Tsereteli's statement, the founder of LLC TV Pirveli, in which he referred to the alleged aggression Georgian Parliamentarians allegedly committed against him. The Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia also received a statement from Anri Okhanashvili, a member of the Georgian Parliament, detailing the alleged threats made by Vakhtang Tsereteli against him. Levan Mgaloblishvili, a member of the Georgian Parliament, sent a message regarding the case in which he referred to suspected violence against him.
“Since all the facts noted in the statements of the above-mentioned persons are related to the fact of violence and threats that took place on June 30 at the official reception on the territory of the United States Embassy in Georgia, they will be studied as part of this criminal case.
At 18:00, Vakhtang Tsereteli, the founder of LLC TV Pirveli, was summoned to the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia for questioning as a witness.
The public will be further informed about the results of the investigation. At the same time, we express our readiness to fully cooperate with the Embassy of the United States of America in Georgia in the process of fully investigating the fact that occurred on June 30, on their territory,” reads the statement.
